"Just over 2 months ago I never dreamed that I would be moving to Italy and becoming godmother to a beautiful girl from the Ivory Coast....

My name is Tanya and my journey here began with a dream of living in Italy and the dream of volunteering in Africa combined.

Before I arrived, I hoped that I would become more openminded to the world, to different people and cultures. The experience that I have had so far has been good, I like everything about Italy.

I love the language, I love Italian architecture, I love to get lost on the small Italian streets and I can’t get enough of Italian Gelato…particularly pistachio.

I’m from Bulgaria and I miss my friends and family and summer nights in my city, Sofia, and the evenings spent in the park of the National Theatre. In the park in the evenings there are many people from all parts of the world and you can make best friends over a bottle of beer for one night.

The hardest part of this volunteer experience has been living in a small town with very limited social opportunities, but the best has been meeting all the people in the centre and hearing their stories. So far, I have learnt that nothing is impossible if you have the patience and determination to achieve it...."

"
