Un eroe differente

Written by

The other day at Center for Asylum Seekers in Santa Cesarea Terme we had de opportunity to have a talk with one of the local heroes of the community of Ortelle.

The other day at Center for Asylum Seekers in Santa Cesarea Terme we had de opportunity to have a talk with one of the local heroes of the community of Ortelle.
His name is Faremi Temitope, but he likes to be called Bigghy. He’s from Sierra Leona and he’s an user of the CAS center from a few years now.

Bigghy was involved last month in a situation in which few of us would know how to react, and in which surely many of us would be petrified and not knowing what to do. While he was in a Post Office to send money to his family to his home country, two men entered in armed with guns with the intention of stealing the money of the Post Office. Bigghy was there and when he saw the situation lunged at them and reduced them, giving the opportunity to all the people who were there to get safe and prevent the bank from being robbed.

This fact is far more important than it seems for time and place, and being aware of the difficult time Italy is going thru with the immigrant policy. This incident can open the eyes of many people who may have the wrong idea of an immigrant as a person leaving their country to get a better life by stealing, deceive or take away privileges from people in the country to which they migrate. Bigghy has given a lesson to all those people who discriminate against him, who look at him wrong or who think he shouldn’t be here, and for his good action the Comune of Ortelle has given him a commemorative plaque to thank him for his good heart action, from the whole commune.
