Il mio progetto di volontariato (Diego)

Hi, my name is Diego and currently finalizing mu experience as a volunteer within the European Solidarity Corps programme in italy, in an organization called SEYF.

Hi, my name is Diego and currently finalizing mu experience as a volunteer within the European Solidarity Corps programme in italy, in an organization called SEYF.

I came to Lecce last January to improve and develop my skills in two ways, in the academic, to make my curriculum wider and learning new skills to introduce myself better in the working field, as well as in a humanitary and introspective way, taking the chance to meet new people new places, know myself better and learn a new language.

Lecce is a very pleasant town, where you can live relaxed and there’s a lot of important and beautiful churches and monuments to see, as well as near places to visit. In my case, I knew nothing about Lecce or Salento, where I did my project, but now I can really recommend to all of my friends to come here and explore it! There’s a beautiful coast with clear waters and good time to spend in the summer.Voluntary work is a very special experience. It is about giving something you have to people who need your help, your knowledge, your abilities. It’s something that makes you think beyond your imagination.
Being a volunteer gives you the chance to be part of a world without limits and stereotypes, a world of friendship and adventures where you can just grow and learn a lot, every day.
Volunteering can offer fantastic opportunities to spend time abroad, learn new skills and develop yourself by gaining confidence and improving language skills, participate in different activities and contribute to the local community as much as possible

I think the most important thing that we learn here is how to be part of an team, with all of that includes, from having an schedule everyday like a real work, to know how the things work in an organization, the tasks that they do or how do they manage to solve different kinds of problems and make things work.
My EVS experience made me to be more tolerant, to listen and understand people much better, to understand and to learn new cultural differences, to learn from people with different backgrounds and different kinds of perspectives. Also, I can say that the work environment and the people who works with us were a key factor during my experience

We learned from how to develop and manage a real KA1 Erasmus+ project, how to implement it, and how to do the right followback afterwards. We have been working in two completely different projects, one with school teenagers (on structured dialogue between Young people and decisión makers) and other with young trainers (on Refugeess crisis) and in both of them we learned how difficult and tough can be developing a project like that.

Ciao a tutti,
